AT&T Expands In-Store E-Reader Selection

8/19/2011 10:23:06 AM Eastern
Dallas - AT&T-owned stores will expand their selection of e-readers beginning Sunday with the addition of the $139 Kindle 3G with Special Offers.

The carrier began early this year to sell e-readers through its stores, starting with the Kindle 3G. The carrier's stores also sell the Pandigital Novel. The Kindle models use Wi-Fi and AT&T's 3G network to download reading material.

For back-to-school purchasers, the Kindle 3G with Special Offers features the Kindle Textbook Rental service, which delivers discounts up to 80 percent on the list prices of print textbooks for customized rental periods of 30 to 360 days.

The Kindle 3G, the carrier said, has been one of the fastest-growing connected devices on AT&T's network. AT&T's subscription base includes more than 13 million emerging devices, including e-readers and data-usage devices other than smartphones, the carrier said. That's more than any other U.S. carrier, AT&T contended.

The Kindle 3G with Special Offers features global 3G coverage, 6-inch paper-like Pearl E Ink display, and access to the Kindle Store's more than 950,000 books. The device's screen saver is sponsored by AT&T.
