New York — For the second year in a row, Apple topped Fortune magazine’s World’s Most Admired Companies list.

The list, which is published in the magazine’s March 16 issue, is based on voting by company executives worldwide, which took place at the end of 2008.

The entire list consists of 363 companies, and in this year’s top 50 there are 15 companies, including Apple, that have interests of some type in either the consumer electronics or major appliance industries.

Those companies (and their rankings in parenthesis) are: Berkshire Hathaway, which owns Nebraska Furniture Mart (2), General Electric (9), Microsoft (10), Wal-Mart (11), Target (19), Costco (22), Hewlett Packard (30), Intel (36), Sony (39), Nokia (42), Best Buy (44), Lowe’s (47), AT&T (48) and Samsung Electronics (50).
