Seattle – Consumers can now use an iPod Touch or iPhone to purchase music from Amazon’s MP3 store, Amazon announced.

The online retailer said it developed an HTML 5-based Amazon MP3 mobile website, enabling consumers to use their Apple’s device’s Safari browser to make purchases at Amazon.com/MP3. Music purchases are automatically saved to the user’s Cloud Player library for downloading or streaming to any iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Kindle Fire, Android phone or tablet, or for streaming through a Roku home device, Sonos wireless multi-room-audio system, or any web browser.

Since the Amazon Cloud Player app for iPhone and iPod Touch was launched, “a top request from customers has been the ability to buy music from Amazon right from their devices,” said Amazon Music VP Steve Boom. “For the first time ever, iOS users have a way do that.”

The Amazon MP3 Store offers more than 22 million songs in the U.S. All songs are DRM-free MP3-format files priced as low as 69 cents each. The songs play back on any MP3-equipped device.

Amazon’s Cloud Player is available in free and premium tiers. The free tier lets users store all MP3 songs purchased at Amazon, plus import up to 250 songs from a PC or Mac to Cloud Player. The premium tier at $29.99/year lets users import and store up to 250,000 songs from a PC or Mac.
