Newark, Del. — Sony was ensnared in another intellectual property tussle over its digital cameras when electronic imaging technology provider Ampex announced that it filed complaints against the CE behemoth in both the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware and the International Trade Commission (ITC).
At issue is a patent owned by Redwood City, Calif.-based Ampex for “certain methods and apparatus for storing and retrieving full-sized and reduced-size images.” The suits allege that Sony incorporated this technology in its digital still cameras without a license.
A Sony spokesperson declined comment, saying the company does not comment on pending litigation.
Ampex also filed suit against a major OEM of digital cameras, Sanyo, in both Delaware and before the ITC over the same patented technology.
Sony was on the receiving end of a similar suit, this one by Kodak in March of this year, alleging patent infringement on certain core digital imaging technologies. Sony filed its own suit against Kodak in April, also alleging patent infringement.
