4/29/2008 12:34:00 PM Eastern

Sunnyvale, Calif. — AMD has introduced its first desktop platforms featuring its new commercial stable AMD Phenom and AMD Athlon processors which are now available from OEMs.

These processors are part of a new initiative called AMD Business class, which is said to be dedicated to developing AMD processor-based commercial desktop and notebook solutions designed specifically for businesses.

The commercial desktop platform solution will configure in a variety of ways to meet customer needs. According to a release, the platform includes a new comprehensive lineup of stable processors, with up to 24-month stability and longevity from initial product availability. The commercial stable processors include native AMD Phenom X3 triple-core and AMD Phenom X4 quad-core processors, as well as AMD Athlon X2 dual-core processors. AMD said OEMs can choose AMD 780v chipsets or optional ATI Radeon HD 3000 series discrete graphics and that the platform also supports non-AMD graphics and chipsets.

The new OEM-manufactured commercial desktop solutions based on the AMD platform include the Hewlett-Packard Compaq dc5850 Business PC from HP and the OptiPlex 740 from Dell.

AMD said it expects to make available commercial notebooks for AMD Business Class based on the upcoming next-generation notebook platform, code-named “Puma,” “with competitive productivity and battery life at multiple price points.”
