Amazon, Sears Begin Holiday CE Sales

Seattle – Amazon.com and Sears Holdings will be the first major
retailers out of the starting gate this season with pre-holiday sales.

Starting tomorrow, Amazon.com will offer a selection of CE deals
each Friday through Thanksgiving at

,
while Sears and Kmart have launched a weekly CE sales event that will continue
through Christmas.

Dell will also offer special discounts this weekend, albeit under
a “Halloween Super Sale” banner.

Each of this week’s promotions includes TVs. Sears’ program
begins with a $300 discount on a 50-inch Panasonic 1080p plasma TV that
regularly retails there for $1,199. Combined with a new monthly payment plan,
which allows customers to manage their spending over a 48-month period on
qualifying in-store purchases of $750, customer can purchase the TV for $899 or
$25 per month.

Sears’ CE-specific discounts are in addition to a weekly

Friday Now”

sales event announced yesterday that will run each Friday and
Saturday through Christmas.

Parent company Sears Holdings said the CE holiday promotion comes
in response to increased demand from consumers “seeking the hottest deals and
must-have electronics this season.”

The next CE sales event, running Oct. 31-Nov. 6, will include a
52-inch, 240Hz Sony Bravia LED-TV for $1,600, reduced from $2,800, and the ViewSonic G-10 Wi-Fi tablet with Android 2.2, reduced $20 to $380.

Dell’s Halloween event runs through Nov. 2 and includes free
shipping on a pair of discounted Vizio 1080p LCD TVs. The 37-inch E370VA will
sell for $480, a savings of $60, and its 47-inch counterpart will be reduced by
$150 to $780, Dell said.

While Amazon, Sears and Dell are ahead of the seasonal pack, several
chains, including Target and Toys ‘R’ Us, held Black Friday-in-July events last
summer.

Pre-holiday
promotions are expected to begin in earnest after Halloween.
