Seattle – Amazon today began taking pre-orders for an updated
Kindle DX, which features better contrast and a lower starting price point of
$379.
The new
has a 50 percent improved contrast and darker
fonts, said Amazon, for its 9.7-inch display.
The DX comes with Amazon’s free 3G wireless service so owners can
download a book from anywhere. The DX can hold 3,500 books and can operate for
about one week on a single charge, or two weeks with the wireless access turned
off.
Pre-orders are being taken today, with shipments taking place on
July 7.
