Almo Goes Green

Philadelphia - A three-year-long "Going Green" program at Almo Corp. has
dramatically reduced the CE and appliance distributor's environmental impact
and expenses.

Specifically, new fluorescent lighting and occupancy sensors lowered
company-wide energy consumption by 40 percent; paper and postage costs were cut
by making 80 percent of all
payments electronically; 100 percent of
all printed materials utilize recycled paper and are produced at a
green-certified printer; and 100 percent of all waste cardboard, electronics, paper,
plastic and glass are now recycled.

The savings, across 1
million square feet of office and warehouse space and the millions of SKUs
shipped annually, amounted to a 40 percent drop in related expenses, the
company said.

business, we wanted to do our part to ensure a clean, healthy environment for
our upcoming generations," said Almo president/COO Warren Chaiken. "The program
has exceeded our expectations and inspired us to further our environmental
