ActiveVideo, Videon Team Up For Interactive TV Platform

San Jose, Calif. – ActiveVideo
Networks
and middleware developer Videon
Central
said Monday they have partnered to develop and expand their interactive
television systems for CE devices.

The two companies will combine Videon’s
core middleware technologies and ActiveVideo’s
processing for an “in the network cloud” system, to expand Web-based user
experiences.

The companies said they expect a joint solution to be available on
Web-connected televisions, Blu-ray Disc and DVD players, and other devices by the
end of 2010.

The two companies will demonstrate the joint solution at the Intel
Developer Forum, held Sept. 22-24 at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco.

ActiveVideo offers viewers an immersive experience that combines
Web video, Web 2.0 functionality and traditional television. With ActiveVideo,
viewers can navigate an interactive environment of both linear and broadband
programming including rich interfaces and graphics optimized for TV and remote
control navigation, the company said.

Its dozens of applications, which are all accessed using standard
TV remote controls, include social-networking functionality that allows viewers
to link online communities with television viewing – and to share
recommendations of TV shows, movies or other media – and video-on-demand (VOD)
“menuing” that can drive usage by enabling viewers to sample VOD content and
easily search for titles, actors and genres of interest.
