Acer Intros Gaming Desktop, Monitor

San Jose, Calif. — Acer today introduced its Aspire gamer-targeted Predator desktop PC and Acer G24 widescreen LCD display to the U.S. market. The news follows yesterday’s four Aspire notebook introductions.

The Predator features an Intel Core 2 Quad processor and NVIDIA GeForce 9000 Series graphics.

In terms of design, the device features a deep metallic copper-colored chassis, the front of which can be raised

for access to a rewritable SuperMulti DVD burner. USB and audio ports are located on the top of the chassis and a multicard reader is mounted on the front. A door built into the front of the chassis is said to provide easy access to hard disks and the standard Acer Easy-Swap hard drive bays are said to allow the Serial ATA high-capacity hard disks to be added easily.

According to Acer, the Predator comes with two 5.25-inch optical drive bays and is easily expandable with a variety of PCI Express slots. The system also offers a host of connectivity options including eight USB 2.0 ports (four in front, four in back), IEEE 1394, two eSATA ports, two Ethernet ports, two DVI-D ports (up to six with three graphics cards), a TV-out port, six audio jacks and various other ports.

Other features include a liquid cooling system, RAID 0,1,5, 1+0 modes with NVIDIA MediaShield Storage technology and an optional Raptor 10,000 RPM hard drive.

The Predator is also said to offer high-definition 7.1-channel audio with Environmental Audio Extensions (EAX) 4.0 and Dolby Home Theater.

A collection of accessories are available to complement the system including a gaming mouse and.a keyboard with light-up keys.

As for the Acer G24 LCD display, it offers a 24-inch widescreen LCD display and a 5,000:1 contrast ratio. The monitor features a 1,920 by 1,200 maximum resolution, 2ms response time and 400 cd/ms brightness.

The screen swivels both horizontally and vertically with a 16-degree viewing angle from both positions. It also offers D-Sub, DVI and HDMI with HDCP inputs as well as VESA wall mounting.

Pricing for the Aspire Predator desktops start at a suggested $1,649. Pricing for the display starts at a suggested $399.
