6th Ave.’s Temiz Back In Business

Succasunna, N.J. — Leon Temiz, co-founder and former CEO of metro New York regional chain 6th Avenue Electronics, will launch his latest retail venture on Nov. 5 with the opening of two Electronics Expo stores.

Temiz left 6th Avenue in August with plans to revive The Wiz, the onetime New York CE powerhouse that owner Cablevision folded last spring. However, a bankruptcy court overturned his winning $125,000 bid for the trademark and reopened the process, paving the way for P.C. Richard & Son to ultimately acquire The Wiz name for $1.6 million.

Instead, Temiz alighted on the name Electronics Expo, ostensibly to reflect a ‘higher level of customer care and detail that you just don’t find in traditional consumer electronics outlets,’ he said.

The high-end A/V stores, located here in the Roxbury Mall (27,000 square feet) and in Somerset, N.J. (18,000 square feet), will feature vendor-specific, store-within-a-store vignettes and listening/viewing rooms that emphasize customized home theater systems. In addition to major brands, the Expos will carry limited distribution lines that will be showcased in seven home theater rooms with packages ranging from $999 to $100,000 — the latter located in an aptly dubbed ‘Wow Room.’

Temiz, who has rejoined the PRO Group in his new guise, will further distinguish Electronics Expo within the New York area market by selling top-brand home theater furniture that is unavailable in other furniture or CE stores.

A grand opening celebration is slated for Nov. 5 that will include celebrities, vendors and PRO Group guests.
