Stevenage, Hertfordshire U.K. – Worldwide sales of front projectors based on 3LCD technology, named for their three-chip liquid crystal display image drivers, led all other projection technologies combined in 2006 through the first quarter of 2007, according to Decision Tree Consulting, based here.
Total 2006 shipments worldwide for projectors with 3LCD technology surpassed 2.5 million units, which is a new record for overall 3LCD annual sales, according to the firm.
Worldwide, over time, 3LCD has been used in more projectors than any technology by a wide margin, since its introduction to the market in 1989.
“3LCD technology continues to lead in market share for the overall front projection category, with the most projectors shipped worldwide in 2006,” stated Mike Fisher, Decision Tree Consulting senior consultant. “The front projector market is growing at 20 percent and 3LCD has been the No. 1 technology since we’ve been tracking annual vendor shipments to the channel.”
