Elite Debuts Motorized Acoustically Transparent Screen

Garden Grove, Calif. — Elite Screens has introduced an entry-level, acoustically transparent, motorized projection screen designed for 4K video.

The new Spectrum AcousticPro UHD motorized projection screen is made of ultra-high-definition acoustically transparent (UHD-AT) material, similar to those found in movie theaters, and is aimed at the traditional CE retail channel.

The fine-woven acoustically transparent material is designed to be placed in front of speakers, allowing sound to pass through the material with minimal attenuation, the company said.

Elite Screens is calling it “the first 4K acoustically transparent material … available to the retail channel on a motorized screen platform.”

“Entry-level home-theater products are becoming more sophisticated because they must,” said Dave Rodgers, Elite Screens’ marketing manager. “So many low-cost projectors are giving a tremendous amount of value as opposed to their low cost, so why shouldn’t a screen be different?”

The AcousticPro UHD material is a 1.0 gain porous weave with 0.32mm perforations. Elite said the small stature of the openings allow sound from in-wall speakers behind it to pass through the material with only a 2.36dB average insertion loss without creating visual artifacts. The material’s flame-retardant properties are compliant with NFPA 701 standards.

Standard control accessories include an IR receiver with remote control and a detachable three-way wall switch. It also has a 5- to 12-volt trigger that can coordinate the screen’s drop and rise with the projector’s power cycle.

Optional features include a wireless RF 12-volt trigger and ceiling trim kit for recessed ceiling installations.

The screen drops and rises with the aid of a silent and power-saving synchronous motor housed in an enameled metal casing that comes fully assembled, so it is ready to hang out of the box, Elite said.

The Spectrum AcousticPro UHD motorized projection screen has a starting price of $624 and is available now in a range of sizes from 100 inches to 125 inches in a 16:9 HDTV format through the retail sales channel.
