Carson, Calif. — Microtek has launched its new ScanMaker s450, a home-office targeted scanner with a spate of photo scanning functions.

With an optical resolution of 4800 dpi and 48-bit color, the scanner features a 35mm transparency adapter for scanning 35mm slides. A FilmView light table in the lid of the scanner is intended to provide the necessary uniform light to sort and select which film images to scan, and the 8.5-inch by 11.7-inch scan bed allows for scanning of photo prints.

The scanner, available now at a suggested $99, comes with a software bundle that includes Microtek ScanWizard 5, which the company says has an automatic photo restoration feature for faded photos. It also comes packaged with Adobe Photoshop Elements, Adobe Acrobat Reader, InterVideo MediaOne Gallery and ABBYY FineReader Sprint OCR, which the company said converts scanned documents into editable electronic files.

Microtek said in a release that the new scanner features the company’s Zero Boundary design to make it easier to completely scan bound pages in a book.

Finally, the product also features a series of automated function buttons that allow the user to choose to scan with default settings, scan and print, scan and attach to email, scan and convert to an editable file, and scan and save to a PDF. There is also an additional button to which users can assign their own customized automatic function.

The ScanMaker s450 is available through a variety of channels including distribution, specialty camera stores, mail order, online and brick-and-mortar retailers.
