Osaka, Japan — Panasonic parent Matsushita Electric has filed a lawsuit charging that recordable DVD media made by CMC Magnetics (CMC), a Taiwanese disc manufacturer, infringe upon Matsushita’s patents.

The lawsuit also names two U.S. affiliates of CMC: Hotan and KHypermedia.

The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

CMC, a supplier of optical media to the replicator market, is also the exclusive worldwide distributor of HP-brand blank media to the consumer market.

In a statement, Matsushita stated that it had been negotiating in good faith with CMC to license the patents in question since late 2004.
