Fremont, Calif. - Logitech introduced Tuesday a Logitech TV Cam
for Skype, that is designed to enable plug-and-play high-definition video calls
from select 2011 Panasonic Viera Connect-enabled HDTVs.
TV Cam for
Skype (shipping now at a $150 suggested retail) will enable sending and
receiving video calls over Skype at up to 720p HD resolution. When connected to
users and make or take calls without the need for a computer or
software-download. Users will need a broadband Internet connection with at
least 1 Mbps upload and download speed to start making HD video calls.
To use the Logitech TV Cam for Skype viewers turn on the TV,
select the Skype app, which is preloaded to the TV, and place or answer the call.
"You shouldn't have to wait for the holidays, a special occasion
or summer vacation to see distant friends and family," said Joerg Tewes, Logitech
consumer video VP and GM. "We believe making a video call to loved ones should
be easy and natural. We welcomed the opportunity to work closely with respected
brands such as Panasonic and Skype to make it possible for more people in more
households to connect with one another from the comfort of their living room."
The uses Carl Zeiss optics and Logitech Fluid Crystal Technology
for added clarity.
Video calls can be made within a a 78-degree angle of the lens.
The camera also includes two digital, directional microphones that reduce noise

The camera will allow TV-to-TV Skype calls, as well as TV-to-PC
or Mac calls and vice versa.
Calls can also be made using the Logitech TV Cam to select iPhone
and smartphones with Skype mobile.
