LG Claims Top Spot In Worldwide Laundry Volume

Seoul, South Korea – LG Electronics said it sold more washers worldwide in 2014 than any other brand for the seventh consecutive year.

Based on statistics compiled from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), Gfk, and TWICE market research partners The Stevenson Company and The NPD Group, the manufacturer claimed a 12.4 percent share of the global washer market last year.

The figure was even higher for front-load washers at 14.7 percent, giving LG the No. 1 berth in this configuration for the sixth consecutive year worldwide and the eighth straight year in the U.S., the company said.

In a statement, Seong-jin Jo, president/CEO of the LG Home Appliance and Air Solution Co., attributed its washer domination to laundry innovations like direct-drive motors for increased performance and durability; a high-pressure “TurboWash” water spray that reduces cycle time; and a “6 Motion” technology that creates six separate drum movements to better clean and protect clothes.

“Innovative features, reliable performance and outstanding design continue to be key selling points for LG premium appliances, and customers seem to agree,” he said.

In other LG news, the company’s U.S. division donated $20,000 to The Battier Take Charge Foundation’s scholarship program following the vendor’s tweet-to-give social campaign and “Beyond the Arc” trivia event in New York this week.

LG launched the tweet-to-give social campaign with former NCAA champion and Naismith College Player of the Year Shane Battier, and pledged to donate each time #LGTrivia was used during the live trivia event.

LG, an official corporate partner of the college athletic association, held a number of NCAA-related events during this month’s March Madness basketball tournaments.
