Rochester, N.Y. — Kodak will debut a new camera with a 24x optical zoom lens plus an smaller, weatherproof version of its pocket camcorder.

The 12-megapixel Z980 sports a 24x optical zoom lens (26mm to 624mm, 35mm equivalent), a 3.5-inch LCD screen, 720p HD video recording and Kodak’s smart capture mode.

The camera will also feature a hot shoe and a vertical shutter release. It will ship in April for $399.

Kodak’s new ZX1 pocket HD video camera will join the earlier Zi6 on the market. The ZX1 will offer a weather-resistant housing and will be roughly 30 percent smaller than the Zi6.

It will feature a 2-inch LCD, 720p/60 fps video recording, a 2x digital zoom and HDMI output with the cable Kodakincluded. It will also bundle a battery charger and records to SDHC memory cards.

Kodak will include new software with the model for easier video browsing and editing. The $149 ships in April in black, blue, red, pink and yellow.
