LG Extends ‘Door-In-Door’ Fridge Feature

Englewood Cliffs, N.J. – LG Electronics is shipping its first side-by-side refrigerator to feature its novel “door-in-door” compartment.

The configuration, developed by LG and first introduced in its French door models, provides an extra storage section between the refrigerator’s door and main compartment for easy access to frequently used item.

The extra compartment also limits the loss of cold air from opening the entire fridge door, and can be accessed by pressing a button on the door handle that releases a magnetic seal.

“LG’s patented door-in-door feature … has become widely popular among busy American families,” said David VanderWaal, the recently promoted head of marketing for LG Electronics USA. “Now we’re breathing new life into the side-by-side category with this innovative feature.”

The 22-cubic-foot fridge, model LSC2291ST, features contoured doors, hidden hinges, stainless-steel finish, interior LED lighting and a counter-depth profile for a built-in look. It carries a suggested retail price of $3,000 and is shipping now to dealers nationwide.
