LG Encouraging Fridge Flipping With Earth-Friendly Promo

LG Electronics is taking the Earth- and sales-volume-friendly “Flip Your Fridge” campaign to sales floors nationwide.

The effort, initiated by the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Energy Star program, encourages consumers to recycle old refrigerators and upgrade with new, more energy-efficient ones.

LG has taken the ball and run with it, beginning with last year’s EPA award-winning appearance with Best Buy on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” and continuing last month on “The Rachael Ray Show” with an Earth Day refrigerator giveaway.

To further the initiative, LG is offering consumers discounts of up to 25 percent on more than 50 of its Energy Star-certified refrigerators through June 8 — worth as much as $1,000 in savings — and is offering as much as $400 on an LG Visa prepaid card to shoppers who purchase a special four-piece kitchen bundle before June 15.

Participating retailers include Best Buy, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Sears Abt, Conn’s, BrandsMart USA and RC Willey.

“Flipping your fridge can have a positive impact on your pocketbook and the environment,” said John Riddle, LG’s home appliance sales senior VP.

Indeed, Americans would save more than $1 billion in annual energy costs and prevent more than 13 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions annually if all refrigerators 15 years or older in the U.S. were replaced with Energy Star-certified refrigerators, according to the EPA.
