LG Appliances Attain New Heights. Literally.

The sky was the limit for LG Electronics last night, when it showcased its new family of black stainless steel kitchen appliances on the 102nd floor of One World Trade Center.

The Freedom Tower observation deck became the setting for the dark-luster collection, whose versatility was underscored by its placement within two dramatically different kitchen vignettes, created by HGTV design stars Emily Henderson and David Bromstad.

Both were on hand for the event, to walk attendees through the inspiration for their respective beach-house and contemporary kitchens, and to demonstrate how the fingerprint-resistant finish can complement any backdrop.

As LG marketing VP David VanderWaal noted, “We’ve seen stainless steel move from an exclusive high-end segment to an aspirational category and now to mass premium products, so this is the optimal time to update the category … [with] an exciting new finish that offers consumers limitless design possibilities to enhance the look of their kitchen.”

LG was an early proponent of black stainless, which also appears in kitchen offerings from Samsung and KitchenAid.

To promote the rollout, LG is sponsoring a Limitless Design Contest, running through Jan. 26, which invites contestants to pin design elements to Pinterest boards for a chance to win two grand prizes: a complete LG black stainless kitchen suite, plus a design consultation with Henderson or Bromstad and $25,000.

The 13-SKU black stainless series is currently on retail sales floors and includes double oven ranges, dishwashers, OTR microwave ovens, and three-and four-door door-in-door French door refrigerators.
