Electrolux Recalls Select Kenmore Elite Ranges

Washington – The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has ordered the recall of two series of Electrolux-made Kenmore Elite ranges, citing fire, burn, and laceration hazards.

The recalls cover a relatively small production run of stainless steel slide-in ranges that were sold at Sears stores this year and last.

The fire and burn hazards are limited to select models within the Kenmore Elite 790.42603 series, which feature gas cooktops and electric ovens. Only about 250 of the dual-fuel units are being recalled due to the potential for the burner flame to extinguish, allowing gas to escape. No injuries or incidents were reported for the ranges, which were sold between June and October 2014 at retails of between $3,200 and $3,700.

The recall is wider for the other series, which encompasses gas, electric and dual-fuel models. One consumer reportedly received stitches after being cut by a sharp edge on the stainless steel trim below the range control panel, presenting a possible hazard in an estimated 5,300 units.

The ranges, which carry model numbers 790.326XXXXX, 790.425xxxxx and 790.426xxxxx, were sold from May 2014 through April 2015 at prices ranging from $2,400 to $3,700.

Consumers are being asked to contact Sears for free inspections and, if necessary, repairs.

The CPSC alerts, which list the serial numbers of the affected models, can be accessed here and here.
