ATLANTA – Despite the safeguards taken, Kaleidescape said its legal battles with Hollywood over disc-copying practices wage on.

To present the company’s view, Stephen Watson, Kaleidescape chief technology officer, will address “Why Innovators Get Sued By Hollywood” at 4:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in room A309 at CEDIA Expo.

Watson will discuss the onerous licensing terms content holders have imposed on technology innovators via the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) through lobbying efforts and litigation practices.

Watson said content holders have set up a system whereby disc players are encouraged to become quickly commoditized into cheap playback devices lacking significant extra features that hardware manufacturers need to make profits from.
