Wayne, N.J. - JVC formally released pricing on Monday on is Full 1080i 3D camcorder, model GS-TD1, that was formally unveiled at International CES.
JVC America said the camcorder, which employs two camera lenses and two imaging sensors -- one for each lens -- to record 3D images, is shipping now at a $1,700 suggested retail.
The camcorder captures both 2D and 3D 1080i images, the latter of which can be played back on new-generation 3DTVs, using active- or passive-shutter glasses. Additionally, 3D video recorded by the camcorder can burned to a Blu-ray Disc or DVD-R for 3D playback on a compatible Blu-ray player.
The GS-TD1 features two 3.32-megapixel CMOS sensors and a new JVC-developed high-speed imaging engine that processes the two FullHD images -- left and right images at 1,920 by 1080i resolution.
Three shooting modes are offered, including a feature that provides several options for HD resolution and archiving of 3D footage. The modes include a new LR Independent format (MP4 MVC) that records in FullHD, the widely used Side-by-Side format (960 by 1,080 by 2) for AVCHD 3D recording, and 2D AVCHD shooting, JVC said.
The camcorder uses an F1.2 JVC 3D Twin HD GT lens with extra-low-dispersion glass, and multiple aspherical lenses. The lens and back-illuminated CMOS sensors combination enables strong low-light recording.
Other features include: 64GB of built-in flash memory, an SDXC card slot, 3D optical 5x zoom, an Optical Axis Automatic Stabilization System for disparity control to give depth to 3D images, and Automatic Parallax Adjustment to optimize the 3D-video comfort zone.
Also offered is a 3.5-inch 3D touchpanel LCD monitor that displays 3D images without any need for 3D glasses.
The GS-TD1 ships with Everio MediaBrowser 3D software (for Windows) for editing and content sharing.
JVC said that for archiving and playing back 3D recordings is enabled with following options:
• FullHD 3D video, shot using the MP4 MVC mode, can be archived to a computer hard drive or Blu-ray disc drive. This FullHD material can be played back in 3D by running the footage back through the camcorder.
