Tokyo — Toshiba, Hitachi and Renesas Technology reported today that the companies may join forces to create a joint semiconductor foundry.

At this point the agreement is to only investigate the feasibility of the three firms setting up a jointly owned, independent chip fabrication business, to which each company would outsource semiconductor fabrication. Further details, including a timeline for the creation of the joint venture, were not released.
