Woodbury, N.Y. – JBL and systems integration specialist Radio Active teamed up to offer luxury-home developer Drummond a series of prepackaged custom-installed home theater systems for the 680 luxury production homes under construction in a development in La Quinta, Calif., at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains.

“The project represents an unprecedented level of coordination between manufacturer, installer and builder, resulting in increased revenue to the installer, greater buyer demand for the builder and added value for the homeowner,” JBL said. JBL is the exclusive provider of the home theater systems in the development.

The 2,900- to 5,000-square-foot homes are priced from $1.125 to more than $2 million. Pricing for the JBL systems will range from about $16,000 to more than $45,000, excluding video displays, Crestron automation controls and associated electronics.

Six on-site model homes feature a variety of JBL home theater systems, which can be demonstrated by pressing a “demo” button on a Crestron touchscreen or keypad controller.

The audio/video installations feature complete JBL Synthesis, JBL Performance Series and JBL Cinema Vision home theater systems available in six different system configurations, either built into custom cabinetry and millwork or available as in-wall systems.

“Never before have integrated whole house home theater, audio/video, multiroom audio, automation, lighting control, security and structured systems of this level of performance been offered on such a large scale in a production home development, at such a complete level of systems integration and coordination between manufacturer, builder and systems integrator,” a JBL spokesman said.

JBL, Radio Active and Drummond worked the inception of the development and creation of the building plans, and they involved the architects, interior designers and sales and marketing teams to ensure that the systems worked together seamlessly and complemented the home environments, JBL added.

Because the homes offer a range of predesigned home entertainment and security packages with in-place structure for home theater, multi-room audio and security systems, pricing is kept highly competitive, JBL added.

Several years ago, Bose began selling standardized, but modifiable distributed-audio and home–theater systems on an “OEM” basis directly to production-home builders. Under that program, Bose negotiated deals with builders, made a margin on the sale, and shipped product to the under-construction home, where installers contracted by Bose did the install, the company said in 2004.
