Nikon Unveils 7 CoolPix Models

Melville, N.Y. – Nikon introduced Tuesday seven CoolPix point-and-shoot cameras, several of which add wireless connectivity and/or super telephoto lenses.

The cameras include the CoolPix P520, AW110, S9500, L820, S31, S5200 and L28.

Nikon’s CoolPix P520 (shipping in February at a $450 suggested retail) is highlighted with an 18.1-megapixel backside illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor, 42x optical zoom-Nikkor glass lens (24-to-1,000mm equivalent), manual override control and Full HD (1080p) video recording. It also adds a built-in GPS tagging, and is compatible with Nikon’s WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter to transfer content to compatible smart devices and tablets for easy sharing.

It will be available in a choice of black, red and dark grey.

The Coolpix AW110 (shipping in February at a $350 suggested retail) is a rugged, weatherproof camera, which is water tight to 59 feet, shockproof from a 6.7-foot drop and freezeproof to 14 degrees (F.). It includes GPS technology and features built-in Wi-Fi connectivity.

Images can be transferred using the Wireless Mobile Adapter Utility app.

Other features include a 16-megapixel (BSI) CMOS sensor, Full HD (1080p) video capture, and Nikkor 5x optical zoom lens with Lens-Shift Vibration Reduction (VR). It is available in a choice of orange, black, camouflage or blue body colors.

The Nikon Coolpix S9500 (shipping in February at a $350 suggested retail) features a a 22x optical zoom (25-550mm) and features an 18.1-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, and a variety of shooting effects including an upgraded Glamour Retouch function, Skin Softening and Quick Effects. It adds a built-in GPS function and built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and image sharing with the Wireless Mobile Adapter Utility app.

It is available in a choice of black, silver or red body colors.

The L820 (shipping in February at a $280) features a 30x zoom, 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and Vibration Reduction (VR) technology. It includes a 3-inch monitor and uses AA-size batteries.

Also included is Easy Auto Mode, Smart Portrait System and Glamour Retouch. It will be available in a choice of black and red body colors.

The S31 (shipping in February at a $120 suggested retail) features a 10.1-megapixel resolution and is waterproof to 16.5 feet, shockproof from a 3.6 foot drop and dustproof. In includes a 3x optical zoom (29-87mm equivalent) Nikkor zoom lens, a dedicated video record button, and a 2.7-inch LCD display.

The Coolpix S5200 (shipping in February at a $180 suggested retail) features a 16.0-megapixel backside-illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor, a 6x wide-angle 6x (26mm to 156mm) optical zoom-Nikkor glass lens and 3-inch TFT LCD monitor.

Built in Wi-Fi allows images and videos to be uploaded and shared instantly with compatible smart devices via the Wireless Mobile Adapter Utility application. The S5200 will be available in a choice of plum, red, blue and black body colors.

The Coolpix L28 ($120 suggested retail) features 20.1-megapixel resolution, a 5x optical zoom (26mm to 130mm) and simple shooting functions such as Easy Auto Mode, 3-inch LCD screen and finger grip. It takes AA-size alkaline batteries and will be available in a choice of red, black or silver.

 In other news, Nikon introduced for its D-SLR family the AF-S Nikkor 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED lens, which will ship in March at a $750 suggested retail price. The FX-format lens features 12 elements in eight groups and a 7-blade diaphragm. The lens has two focus modes: M/A and full manual, and features a Silent Wave Motor. Minimum focus distance is approximately 11 inches.
