Irvine, Calif. — Humax USA is now shipping a next-generation combination DVR/DVD with TiVo service, at a sub-$400 suggested retail price.
Model DRT400 includes a 40-hour TiVo Series2 DVR, a DVD-RW/-R DVD recorder and progressive scan video output at a $399 suggested retail price.
Like its predecessor — the Humax DRT800 — the unit requires TiVo service activation with a $12.95 monthly or $299 lifetime subscription fee, and offers most of the core features available in stand-alone Series2 DVRs, including the ability to control live TV, Season Pass recordings, WishList searches and online scheduling.
In addition, a Home Media feature of the DVR enables connection to a home network for access to digital photos and music stored on the PC, as well as transferring content among multiple TiVo boxes on the same network.
In the late summer, Humax DRV/DVD recorder combo units will also be compatible with the new TiVo ToGo feature, which allows transferring recordings on the TiVo hard drive to a hard drive on a remote computer, via an in-home network.
The 40-hour combo model “is perfect for the family or frequent traveler that will regularly transfer programs to DVD for playback on the road — a great way to take advantage of the many new cars outfitted with DVD players today — and portable DVD players too,” said Tony Goncalves, Humax’s strategic marketing and business development VP.
