Germantown, Md. — Satellite-delivered broadband service provider Hughes Network Systems introduced Monday its HughesNet VoIP telephony service.

HughesNet Voice delivers home phone service with free call waiting, caller ID, call forwarding and enhanced voicemail among others, and unlimited long-distance calling within the domestic United States and Canada

The service is said to deliver Quality of Service (QoS) calling as a result of new technology Hughes developed in its latest HughesNet Gen4 service delivery system, which establishes dedicated bandwidth for voice traffic, eliminating interference with data running over their satellite Internet connection.

The service is currently available to U.S. subscribers, the company said, and is designed to bring “customers significant savings in long-distance calling together with advanced telephony features such as call forwarding to multiple phones and enhanced voicemail, including email and text notification.”

The company also offers similar services in the parts of the world, including Hughes VoIP in Mexico, which serves more than 30,000 subscriber lines in remote villages.

Telefonica Spain also uses Hughes VoIP in rural and remote areas for over 10,000 subscriber lines, and Telkom South Africa is implementing an extensive Hughes VoIP network to reach approximately 5,000 customers who currently lack landline phone service.

“We’ve been delivering high quality public network VoIP services to our enterprise customers for many years,” stated Mike Cook, Hughes senior VP, “and have now leveraged that experience to deliver a compelling voice solution for consumers around the world. Customers say they love having a new affordable phone service option with the many advanced features that HughesNet Voice offers, giving them a truly industry-leading telephony solution.”

In the U.S., HughesNet Voice is available in a variety of plan options, including international calling, giving HughesNet customers a choice in selecting the bundle that best suits their needs. Users can save as much as 25 to 30 percent over traditional landline phone service, the company said.
