D-Link plans to launch its first smart-home product with Apple HomeKit certification, the company announced.
The first product, due later this year, will be a Wi-Fi security camera, whose pricing and features weren’t disclosed. D-Link also didn’t say when or if it would expand HomeKit certification to other products.
D-Link’s current Wi-Fi-enabled smart-home products consist of a camera, smart plugs, water sensor, motion sensor, siren, and a light switch with built-in camera and built-in noise, temperature and humidity sensors.
The announcement follows Apple’s disclosure at Monday’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) that an upgraded iOS operating system due in the fall will add HomeKit support of cameras as well as doorbells, air conditioners and air purifiers.
Three other companies – August Home,Ring and Canary – also announced plans this week to offer HomeKit-enabled products. Auugust and Ring will offer a Wi-Fi doorbell with built-in camera. Canary plans a camera.
New HomeKit products will be controlled not only from the companies’ own apps but also from Apple’s planned Home app, which will be available with the launch of iOS 10 in the fall. The Apple app will enable control of HomeKit devices across multiple brands from a single app, which will also feature an Apple-designed UI. Such unified control is not available from all HomeKit suppliers’ apps.
Almost 100 home automation products will feature HomeKit this year, Apple has said.
