Rockleigh, N.J. – Crestron expanded the capabilities of its Pyng control hub and app to enable set up of multiroom-audio systems via a tablet instead of a laptop.
The app and hub, launched at last year’s CEDIA Expo, reduce installation time and boost ESCs’ margins by letting installers use tablets rather than laptops to configure installer-grade home-automation products equipped with the company’s infiNET EX wireless mesh-network technology. The app and hub already enable configuration and control of Crestron’s infiNET EX-equipped lighting products, motorized shades, thermostats, occupancy sensors, and door locks. The products connect via RF to the Pyng hub.
The solution makes unnecessary the programming expertise currently required of home-automation systems that must be programmed via laptop, the company said.
The new version of Pyng, available in six weeks, will make it easier to set up audio distribution in every room of a house with such sources as streaming services, AM/FM radio, more than 15,000 free online radio stations, and iTunes music via AirPlay or USB. Crestron’s multiroom amps deliver music to up to 72 independent zones at 140 watts per channel.
In other changes, the Pyng app now runs directly on TSW-552/752/1052 touch screens as soon as they are connected to the network so installers can set up user interfaces, the company said.
Separately, the company announced Feb. 23 availability of the myCrestron.com cloud service for all Pyng and 3-series home-control systems. The MyCloud service enables installers to remotely monitor and manage Crestron systems to identify and fix issues faster at the system and device levels without a truck roll.
A dealer’s installed systems will be displayed on an online dashboard to provide a comprehensive status update at a glance, the company said. From the dashboard, installers drill down to system-level and device-level event logs that Crestron systems automatically send to the cloud.
Installers can charge service fees to offer priority service to consumers who pay for active monitoring. Reactive monitoring can be available to other customers, the company said.
