These Are Bose’s New SoundLink II Headphones

Bose unveiled its newest headphones today, the SoundLink Around-Ear Wireless II, a Bluetooth and NFC model that boasts 15 hours of battery life.

The over-ear headphones carry a $279 suggested retail, which is higher than the price tag for the model they’re replacing, the $249 first-gen SoundLink wireless headphones (also known as the AE2w Bluetooth). This model, however, no longer requires the bulky removable Bluetooth control module that the previous version had.

Bose is emphasizing the SoundLink Wireless II’s built-in equalization technology, said to eliminate “manufactured boosts.” (“Music the way the artist intended” is a common refrain in the headphones industry, and this seems like Bose’s variant.) The in-line mic also has audio-adjustment technology designed to balance speech volume based on ambient sound.

The SoundLink Wireless II have a quick-charge feature that provides two hours of playtime with a 15-minute charge. Pairing can be via an NFC tap or the Bluetooth voice prompts, the latter of which also notes how much battery life remains and which device you’re connected to.

The fold-flat design, said to be inspired by Bose’s QC25 model, will come in black or white. A matching case is included.

Bose has been the No. 2 headphones brand for the last two years based on U.S. dollar sales, according to The NPD Group. Beats has been No. 1.
