NEW YORK — There was an explosion of headphones
into the market this month, with introductions
from some of the leading players in the category.
Here are just some of the highlights.
Harman Debuts Quincy
NORTHRIDGE, CALIF. — Harman International
took the wraps off a line of Quincy Jones-inspired
headphones, the result of a partnership with Jones.
Three models make up the line: the Q701 referenceclass
premium over-ears, the Q460 high-performance
portable on-ear mini headphones and the Q350 inear
headphones. Pricing ranges from $149 to $479.
Pioneer Adds DJ Headphones
ONG BEACH, CALIF. — Pioneer Electronics introduced
the HDJ-500 series, designed specifically
for the DJ market. They are constructed of magnesium
allow for durability
and a light weight, and
come with 40mm drivers,
urethane pads, and a
rotating arm structure that
lets users rotate the right
earpiece forward and back
by 60 degrees.
Ultimate Ears Teams
With EMI For Monitors
IRVINE, CALIF. — Ultimate Ears announced it is joining
forces with EMI Music’s Capitol Studios to develop
new custom in-ear monitors.

Monitors are designed for professional
producers, audio engineers
and audiophiles, the company said.
They reportedly provide up to 32 dB of noise isolation and feature three individually turned, balanced
armature speakers in each monitor. Frequencies can
be reproduced with an extended wide band response from
5Hz to 18 kHz.
Ultimate Ears also introduced a line of earphones that
features “genre-inspired designs.” They come in five designs
JVC Adds Marshmallows,
WAYNE, N.J. — JVC added to its Marshmallow line and introduced
a new pair of over-ear headphones. The HA-FR50
Marshmallow in-ear headphones come with a remote that
can control functions and volume on Apple devices and feature
Made for iPod, iPad and iPhone certification. They’re
offered in four colors with earpieces in two different sizes.
The HA-S600 is designed as a lightweight, foldable
around-the-ear headphone that offers superior
bass reproduction. Features include
memory foam ear pads, 40mm neodymium
drivers, a bass-boosting port, 3.94-foot cord
with gold-plated iPhone-compatible slim
plug, and a carbon compound diaphragm.
