Beats Unveils Its 1st Wireless Earphones

CULVER CITY, CALIF. — While the ink has barely dried from the news of its acquisition by Apple (and the speculation for what it means certainly hasn’t relented), Beats Electronics isn’t taking a break from product intros, announcing its first wireless earphones last week.

The Powerbeats2 Wireless, which use Bluetooth and are geared toward athletic users, are said to have been developed with input from LeBron James. Features include IPX4 water resistance, redesigned ear hooks, a flat cable with in-line mic and controls, and a rechargeable battery with six hours of play time. James’ image will appear on the packaging.

According to Beats, charging the earphones for 15 minutes provides an hour of playback.

The Powerbeats2 will be available this month for a $199 suggested retail, in black, red or white. A wired version of the Powerbeats has a $149 price tag.
