Garmin Adds Calorie Counting To Wearables Line

Olathe, Kan. — Garmin International announced a partnership with free calorie-counting app MyFitnessPal to display net calories counts on Garmin Vivofit activity trackers and Forerunner 15 GPS running watches.

Once a user’s MyFitnessPal account is linked to a Garmin Connect account, calories consumed will automatically be viewable in a widget on the Garmin Connect home page. The new calories in/out feature compares calories consumed against calories burned to show the user his net calorie balance for the day.

Other Forerunner models and Garmin Edge GPS bike computers will also gain access to MyFitnessPal data later this summer.

“Garmin has been helping people reach health goals with our line of fitness wearables for 10 years, and our partnership with MyFitnessPal brings our user experience to the next level,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin worldwide sales VP. “Users can track their consumed calories through the largest food and nutrition database in the world, and directly compare it in Garmin Connect with their calories burned in workouts and throughout the day on their Garmin device.”
