T-Mobile Keeps Growing Without ‘Gimmicks’

New York — Q2 was kind to T-Mobile.

The carrier delivered strong second-quarter financial results highlighted by a 14 percent increase in revenue, to $8.2 billion, and strong net income of $361 million.

It added 2.1 million net U.S. subscribers in the quarter, including 1 million postpaid users, and is now on pace to surpass its previous full-year guidance on post-paid subscriber growth, expecting to add 3.4 million to 3.9 million postpaid users. Post-paid refers to customers who pay on a monthly basis based on usage.

T-Mobile now has 58.9 million subscribers and has added at least 1 million new subscribers in each of the last nine straight quarters. It said it will remain profitable in Q3 and Q4, and full-year 2015.

CEO John Legere commented on the company’s strong quarter and the success of his “uncarrier” strategy. “While the carriers continue to use gimmicks to confuse consumers, T-Mobile continues to listen to customers and respond with moves that blow them away,” Legere said.
