Amazon Reports $126M Q2 Loss

Seattle – Amazon.com remained in the red in the second quarter.

The nation’s No. 1 e-tailer reported a net loss of $126 million for the three months ended June 30, compared to a year-ago net loss of $7 million.

Net sales rose 23 percent to $19.3 billion.

In North America, net sales rose 26 percent to $12 billion and operating income increased 7 percent to $438 million. Sales of CE and other general merchandise rose 29 percent to $8.4 billion and media sales increased 13 percent to $2.5 billion.

“We continue working hard on making the Amazon customer experience better and better,” said founder/CEO Jeff Bezos, who cited expanded Sunday deliveries, the addition of the free, one million-song Prime Music service, and increased offerings for its Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers during the quarter.
