Nokia Mobile Phone Sales Jump 30%
Helsinki, Finland — Sales in the mobile phone segment at Nokia increased 30 percent in the first quarter, hitting $7.2 billion, up from $5.6 billion in the same three months last year. Net sales increased year-on-year in all regions, with growth in North America the strongest, said the company.

Apple Q1 iPod Unit Movement Soars 61%

Cupertino, Calif. — Unit shipments of Apple Computer iPods jumped 61 percent in the company’s fiscal second quarter, climbing to 8.5 million, compared with 5.3 million a year-ago. This pushed second-quarter iPod revenue 69 percent year-on-year, reaching $1.7 billion for the three months, up from $1 billion in the same time frame in 2005.

LG Digital Display Segment Sales Rise 13.6%

Seoul, South Korea — Strong demand for plasma and LCD digital televisions helped push up first quarter LG Electronics digital display segment sales by 13.6 percent, to $1.5 billion, compared with $1.3 billion in the year-ago period.

Motorola Mobile Phone Segment Sales Soar 45%

Schaumburg, Ill. — Shipments of mobile phone handsets increased 61 percent in the first quarter at Motorola, reaching a record 46.1 million units, and helping the company push up its mobile devices segment sales by 45 percent in the three months, to $6.4 billion, from $4.4 billion in the year-ago period.

Philips Q1 CE Sales Jump 13%

Amsterdam, The Netherlands — Strong sales in connected displays, driven by the accelerating transition from tube TVs to flat-panel displays — as well as strong growth in peripherals and accessories — fueled a 13 percent increase in consumer electronics sales at Philips Electronics in the first quarter, coming in at $3 billion, up from a year-ago $2.6 billion.
