Mountain View, Calif. — Wireless SD card maker Eye-Fi said it would add geo-tagging and hot spot access capabilities to its existing cards through a free firmware upgrade if they subscribe to the online photo service SmugMug.

New and current SmugMug members can add geo-tagging and hot spot capabilities to their existing Eye Cards for one year. The company will discount its membership plans by 20 percent through the end of this year.

Eye-Fi recently added a new card to its line that offers geo-tagging capabilities and hot spot access via Wayport. Its original card was subsequently re-branded the Eye-Fi Share card and remains on the market.
