Memphis, Tenn. -
Electrolux plans to open a new manufacturing complex for cooking products here
in 2012.
The
700,000-square-foot facility represents an investment of more than $190 million
and will produce built-in and specialty cooking appliances under the Electrolux,
Electrolux Icon and Frigidaire brands.
Products will include
drop-in/slide-in ranges, wall ovens, specialty freestanding ranges and cooktops.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early
2011, and Electrolux plans to begin transitioning production from the company's
current facility in L'Assomption, Quebec, to the new plant in mid-2012. The
process is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2013. The facility
will employ more than 1,200 people when it is fully operational.
Electrolux said
the transition will be seamless for customers, and "will work to assure there
will be no negative impact on product availability, delivery or service."
The plan is
subject to necessary government approvals including, but not limited to,
payment-in-lieu-of-tax agreement.
