URC, Snap AV Team Up

Harrison, N.Y. — URC is expanding its distribution base to include Snap AV dealers.

URC’s full line of ccGEN2 and Complete Control home-automation products will be available through Snap AV starting September 5. Snap dealers will have to pass an online certification program to sell the ccGEN2 and CC products.

URC’s premium Total Control home-automation line continues to be limited to direct sales by URC to authorized dealers.

Under the partnership, “Snap can now combine our control/automation platform with other products they manufacture – including routers, power conditioners, matrix switchers, and cameras — to provide complete, fully vetted custom solutions for their dealers,” said URC marketing director Cat Toomey.

Snap will also provide level 1 tech support for ccGEN2 products.

SnapAV makes about 95 percent of the products it markets. The products consist of 1,500 A/V solutions for the residential and commercial channels. The remaining products are available from other suppliers to enable one-stop shopping for SnapAV dealers, who are able to order online.

“This is the first phase of great things to come from the cooperation of URC and SnapAV,” said URC SVP/GM Doug Cole. “And it’s clearly the next logical phase in the carefully planned rollout of ccGEN2, our whole-house home automation product line for distribution dealers.”

Many SnapAV dealers “are already heavily invested in the URC line,” added Mike Jordan, VP of product development, affiliates for SnapAV.

The Complete Control line features remote control, RF base station, and app control and is typically used to for one-way single-room control, such as controlling all entertainment-system components. It’s sold direct by URC and through distributors. The ccGEN2 line is a whole-house automation line sold through distribution. It’s built on a similar platform to the premium Total Control line but features fewer bells and whistles, the company said.

The premium Total Control whole-house automation line steps up to add two-way control for metadata viewing, multiroom streaming audio in up to 32 zones, and the like.
