Satellite Distributor DSI Selling CE Division To O’Rourke Sales

O’Rourke Sales Company (OSC), a family-owned CE and mobile distributor, has agreed to acquire DSI Systems, a leading CE, appliance, furniture, and bedding distributor serving independent dealers.

The deal will make OSC the largest TV supplier for the independent channel, the company said.

The purchase, from satellite systems distributor and longtime competitor DSI, includes DSI Systems’ Columbus, Ohio, warehouse facility, which will be integrated into OSC’s network of seven distribution centers in Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Nevada and Texas.

DSI, an AT&T/DirecTV distributor, said it will focus on its satellite, broadband, security, energy and accessories businesses, and plans to leverage DirecTV’s recent hookup with the No. 2 mobile carrier.

“We felt that it was important for DSI to focus on the AT&T opportunity and be positioned properly for the growth that we are about to experience,” said president/CEO Doug Robison. The company is projecting double-digit growth in residential sales on top of “huge growth” in its commercial satellite business.

In a joint statement, OSC CEO Jeff O’Rourke and his nephew, president Joe O’Rourke Jr., said the acquisition “shows our commitment to invest in growth of our systems, facilities and resources to provide our dealers ‘best in class’ service levels.”

They said the addition of the Columbus facility will give OSC coast-to-coast coverage with “exceptional” delivery times, and noted that the purchase coincides with the company’s 50th anniversary.

Indeed, OSC was founded in 1965 as O’Rourke Bros. Distributing by Jeff and his brother Jim, who started out buying and selling CB radios.

Today the company distributes CE, IT, mobile, majaps, outdoor products, and A/V furniture to independent dealers, rent-to-own retailers and military exchanges, and provides fulfillment services to e-tailers.

DSI Systems, which describes itself as the largest national distributor of 4K and HDTVs, recently expanded into bedding, furniture and appliances.

The DSI division was a major supplier to the Nationwide Marketing Group, and Nationwide said the relationship will continue under OSC, which will become “an integral part” of its distribution strategy.

OSC will also take the reins of Nationwide Direct, a distribution program previously run by DSI Systems, which serves the group’s Southwest chapter.

“We look forward to our membership taking advantage of what OSC has to offer with regard to distribution and we are confident our group is in good hands moving forward through this change,” said Nationwide president/CEO Dave Bilas. “This expansion on our existing relationship with OSC showcases our commitment to aligning our members with the leading service providers in our industry.”

Added Nationwide Southwest CEO Dennis Willich: “Our members will be able to source products from a world-class distributor, presenting a great opportunity for our independents.”

Noted Jeff O’Rourke: “OSC is proud to partner with the largest buying group … to assist their roster of independent retailers with their distribution and warehousing needs. We continue to invest in all arms of our business to ensure we are executing leading class service levels and look forward to demonstrating that to all of Nationwide’s members.”
