D&H Sees High-Margin Opportunities In Bluetooth Audio

Gold in them thar hills, thanks to iPhone 7 1/09/2017 12:00:00 PM Eastern

D&H Distributing, the North American IT and CE distributor, is encouraging its retail and e-tail customers to climb aboard the Bluetooth gravy train.

According to merchandising VP Rob Eby, iPhone 7’s popularity as a holiday gift item, and Apple’s decision to remove the traditional headphone jack, has created new opportunities to upsell Bluetooth audio accessories, including compatible headphones and wireless speakers.

“Audio has been a consistently dynamic category at D&H,” Eby said. “And as with many accessory products, this merchandise often delivers greater margins than higher-priced hardware items. We’re always looking to help our retailers and dealers thrive in a challenging market. Developments like the iPhone 7’s omission of a wired headphone jack present a window of opportunity that dealers can leverage for incremental revenues.”

Examples of higher-margin Bluetooth accessories include Samsung’s Level U wireless headphones and QFX’s Hi-Fi Bluetooth Tower speakers with built-in amplifier, the company said, as well as wireless fare from companies including Braven, iHome, Jabra, Logitech, Plantronics and Sennheiser — all carried by the distributor.

The 99-year-old family business is based in Harrisburg, Pa., and maintains warehouses there and in Atlanta; Brampton, Ontario, Canada; Chicago; and Fresno, Calif.
