DirecTV Announces New Sunday Ticket Program

DirecTV said it will expand its NFL Sunday Ticket sports package this year with interactive programming enhancements and select games in HDTV for those who subscribe to the special sports package.

At the same time, the direct broadcast satellite provider announced its fall offer for the subscription sports package, which it carries on an exclusive basis.

The interactive enhancements will include onscreen scores, stats and alerts of league games, which will appear in an L-shaped frame around the screen on four additional enhanced game channels. Alerts will include indicators of when a team is in the “red zone,” so viewers can quickly surf to other games at critical moments.

DirecTV will also provide a “Highlights on Demand” service to Sunday Ticket subscribers who have a DirecTV Digital Video Recorder (DVR). On Monday mornings, DVR-enabled subscribers will be able to view highlights of Sunday Ticket games that are automatically delivered to their DVR. These game highlights will be fully edited and narrated and run approximately two minutes.

A new Game Tracker enhancement will be available through DirecTV.com during game time, providing Sunday Ticket customers with alerts when games other than the one they are watching are heating up, so they can tune their television to the right channel and watch all the key moments. Customers can also choose to play along with trivia or chat with friends on their computer with this feature.

The satellite TV provider also announced it has reached an agreement with CBS Sports to air select Sunday Ticket games every week during the regular season in high-definition format.

New DirecTV residential customers who subscribe to the NFL Sunday Ticket package for $239 will receive four free months of the DirecTV Total Choice Premier with Local Channels package. The DirecTV fall offer is also available to new customers who subscribe to the DirecTV Para Todos Spanish-language service. To qualify for the DIRECTV fall offer, new customers must do the following: purchase a DirecTV system from a participating retailer before Oct. 17, 2003; and activate 2003 NFL Sunday Ticket at $239 (or four payments of $59.75) and DirecTV’s Total Choice Premier with Local Channels, or Opcion Premier con Canales Locales programming package, within 30 days of equipment purchase.
