Toronto – Start-up TellSpec is rolling out a handheld consumer food scanner that uses spectroscopy to analyze the nutrition and chemical makeup of food.
The TellSpec food scanner integrates a DLP device from Texas Instruments that, utilizing about a million programmable micromirrors and a broadband lamp and combined with an advanced mathematical algorithm, can scan a piece of food or a cup of beverage and identify its calories, macronutrients, ingredients, allergens and chemicals and inform consumers about the relationship between the food’s composition and the health effects of its consumption.

The first TellSpec food scanners are expected to be delivered to beta food testers and developers in Q2.
