Newark, N.J. — Panasonic’s newest mirrorless Micro Four Thirds camera lets users pull high-res still images from 4K video.
The Lumix G7 features the company’s 4K Photo feature, enabling users to pause and extract 8-megapixel images from 4K video. The Micro Four Thirds build means it is compatible with more than 24 compact lens options, noted Panasonic, and it has built-in Wi-Fi to let users remotely shoot and share.
The G7 can record QFHD 4K video in 3,840 by 2,160 at 30p or 24p in MP4, or FullHD 1,920 by 1,080 60p video in AVCHD Progressive or MPEG-4/H.264. Videos will be recorded in up to 4GB files.
Other features include:
**4K Burst Shooting, 4K Burst S/S (Start/Stop) and 4K Pre-burst;
**a 16-megapixel digital live MOS sensor;
**Venus Engine image processor with quad-core CPU and 25,600 achievable ISO;
**a new drive mode dial, in addition to the front/rear dials;
**dual OLED displays for the live viewfinder;
**3-inch free-angle rear monitor with 1040K-dot resolution;
**UHS-II SDXC/SDHC compliance; and
**max 1/16,000-second shutter speed.
The G7 will be available mid-June in three configurations: black with a 14-42mm kit lens ($799); Pewter/Gun Metal with 14-42mm kit lens at ($799); and black with a 14-140mm kit lens ($1,099).
Panasonic bulked up its Lumix line with several point-and-shoot models at International CES in January.
