Gordon-Levitt To Shoot 4K Film For Samsung NX1

Ridgefield Park, N.J. – Samsung said today that filmmaker and TV/movie star Joseph Gordon-Levitt has agreed to produce a short film titled, “In a City,” inspired by people and cities across the globe and shot in 4K Ultra HD entirely on Samsung’s new NX1 compact system camera.

Samsung said the film is being shot this fall and is slated for release Dec. 11.

It will be produced by Gordon-Levitt’s open-collaborative production company HitRECord and will be part of a promotional campaign for the NX1 starting around the holidays.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Joseph on this project and are confident that his creative talent, combined with the capabilities of the NX1, will create a memorable short film that captures the lives of consumers in cities across the globe,” stated Younghee Lee, Samsung Electronics global marketing, IT and mobile division executive VP. “The NX1 offers ultimate filming experience with its sophisticated features, so filmmakers like Joseph can focus on telling their story without worrying about the technical performance of their equipment.”

“Cinematography is one of the most powerful aspects of filmmaking. To visually express the mood of a scene or moment is as essential to storytelling as a script, a score, or an actor’s performance,” stated Gordon-Levitt. “When you’re creating art, it’s important to know that your tools will match your ambition, and that you can rely on the technology to enable, not limit your artistic vision.”

Gordon-Levitt released a video message today encouraging HitRECord members to submit lyrics and audio content to help build the film.

The “In a City” campaign will feature Gordon-Levitt traveling the streets of cities across the world “to explore the rhythm of daily life for the people who live there, capturing the experiences and interactions that give each city its unique character,” Samsung said.

Part of the effort will include crowd sourced content from HitRECord’s community of cinematographers, musicians and lyricists.

The Samsung NX1 supports both Cinema 4K and Ultra HD video recording. Its built-in HEVC codec (H.265) allows users to compress and store video clips without compromising quality, and its advanced Auto Focus System III with 205 Phase Detection AF points covers nearly the entire imaging area.

Additional benefits to filmmakers include manual exposure control, focus peaking and zebra pattern, as well as microphone and headphone ports.

The NX1 is also equipped with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, enabling wireless transmission of UHD movies on a UHD TV.

The “In a City” video will be released on Dec. 11 on
