Round Rock, Texas - On the back of improved enterprise-level
sales, Dell posted strong yearly and quarter results yesterday.
For its 2011 fiscal year, ended Jan. 3, Dell generated $2.6
billion in net income on $61.5 billion in sales, a 16 percent increase over the
previous year. Fourth quarter net income was $927 million on 15.7 billion in
Dell's consumer business did not perform as well. The company
reported $3.3 billion in revenue, down 8 percent year over year, with an
operating income of $69 million. Dell said the release of the Windows 7
operating system in 2010 created artificially high comparable sales that the
company had to compete against this year.
Dell's small and medium business revenues climbed 12 percent to
$3.7 billion with operating income hitting $450 million for the year.
Large-enterprise revenue was $4.7 billion, up 12 percent. The
company's public sector increased 4 percent to $4 billion with sales of servers
and storage each enjoying double-digit growth for the year.
