Marco Rubio Named CTA Ninja

Sen. Marco Rubio will receive the Innovation Policy Ninja Award from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) at the trade group’s Digital Patriots Dinner next week in Washington.

The Florida Republican and former presidential contender was cited by the CTA as “a forward-thinking legislator who works to advance public policies that will spur innovation, create jobs and help drive our tech economy for years to come.”

“In his nearly six years of public service in the U.S. Senate, Senator Rubio has influenced and supported key innovation issues before they became mainstream,” CTA president/CEO Gary Shapiro said in a statement. “He is a fierce advocate of new advances in technology, promoting the benefits of ridesharing and underscoring the importance of permission-less innovation for everything from driverless cars to wireless innovations.

“We thank Senator Rubio for supporting and advancing the momentum the technology industry provides to the U.S. economy,” he said.

The award was last bestowed on Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR) in 2013 for his work as “the lead champion of crucial spectrum reform legislation and for his leadership and foresight that will enable the advancement of wireless innovation for decades to come,” CTA said.

This year’s Digital Patriots Dinner, to be held April 20 at the Marriott Marquis, will also honor Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX) as 2016 Digital Patriots for their work in advancing public policies that encourage and support innovation.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will also receive CTA’s Innovation Champion award on behalf of his state, which has championed innovation-friendly policies more than most.

The Digital Patriots Dinner is one of several policy-related events during CTA Tech Week, including CES on the Hill and Lobby Day.
