Marantz Adds USB DAC To Another Component

Mahwah, N.J. — Marantz plans August shipments of its first integrated stereo amplifier with built-in USB-B DAC to connect to a PC.

With the DAC and asynchronous USB port, the $999-MAP PM7005 streams 192kHz/24-bit PCM and DSD2.8 and DSD5.6 audio from a USB-connected computer. DSD audio is decoded in native form.

The component features 2×80-watt output into 4 ohms, current-feedback moving-magnet phono stage, digital optical and coaxial inputs with 192kHz/24-bit D/A conversion, analog mode that switches off the digital section for vinyl listening, and proprietary hyper-dynamic amplifier modules (HDAMs), which deliver high speed with low noise.

The PM7005 also features a high-speed instantaneous-current power supply and the same high-grade speaker terminals used in the larger PM8005 stereo integrated amp.

The PM7005 joins a growing number of Marantz components with DACs and USB-B ports. They include the recently launched NA8005 network audio player/DAC with high-resolution audio support and recently launched slim-line networked NR 1605 A/V. Another product is the SA8005 CD/SACD player.
